Extralabel use of medicated feeds, including veterinary feed directive drugs, for minor species
The AVMA supports the revised FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Compliance Policy Guide 615.115 (Extralabel Use of Medicated Feeds for Minor Species) published December 5, 2016. This CPG enumerates the conditions under which regulatory discretion pertaining to the extralabel use of medicated feeds, including Veterinary Feed Directive drugs, for minor species may be exercised. The AVMA believes that given the paucity of approved drugs for minor species, regulatory discretion in the enforcement of the extralabel use of medicated feeds in minor species under veterinary oversight would best serve food safety, animal health and welfare, and public health.
