How AVMA is organized and governed

About the AVMA

The AVMA is a member-run, member-driven association representing the needs and priorities of our diverse member veterinarians. Our operating structure puts members at the heart of organizational decision-making—as members of the councils, committees, and task forces that advise the Board of Directors (BOD) and House of Delegates (HOD). Members also elect the district directors from the AVMA's 11 geographic districts who serve on the BOD. The HOD make-up embraces state, territorial, and allied veterinary groups, who select its members. This governing structure helps ensure that the AVMA hears and represents veterinarians in all disciplines and specialties across our profession.

As a valued member and volunteer, knowing how the AVMA operates helps empower you to contribute to the conversation.
