Business

The late Drs. Rube Harrington and Peter Schantz were memorialized at the meeting. The AVES approved a change to its name and will subsequently be known as the American Veterinary One Health Society (AVOHS). The change will better reflect its vision of achieving optimal health of animals, people, plants, and the environment through science-based One Health principles; its mission of promoting and advancing the health of animals, people, plants, and the environment using a One Health approach; and its goals of celebrating and honoring accomplished leaders in the disciplines of public health, animal health, plant health, environmental health, and all related fields falling under the discipline of One Health. A biography of Dr. James H. Steele, "Animal Health, Human Health, One Health: The Life and Legacy of Dr. James H. Steele," is sold online and at other booksellers. All proceeds go to the society to help sustain future programs. The society's website can be accessed to follow recent AVES activities, learn about the history of the organization, and make a donation to support programs.
