The Jan. 15, 2010, JAVMA News story “Welfare courses have tough time breaking into curriculum” included mention of a presentation in which Dr. Janver D. Krehbiel, associate dean (not dean, as reported) of Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, gave examples of six veterinary schools and colleges that have noteworthy offerings in animal welfare education. One of the schools he referenced, the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, was omitted from the story. Moreover, Dr. Krehbiel emphasized in his presentation that those six institutions were only examples and that some other U.S. and Canadian schools and colleges offer similar topics and courses. The Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine and Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine are among those others.
