Two June 1 News items—“AVMA Answers: First step in the one-health initiative” and “Infectious disease center increases public health impact”—stated that Dr. Lonnie J. King, director of the new National Center for Zoonotic, Vector-Borne, and Enteric Diseases, is the first veterinarian to be director of a center at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To clarify, Dr. King is the first veterinarian to be director of a center at CDC under the recent reorganization of the Coordinating Center for Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Frederick A. Murphy (COR ’59), currently professor of pathology and the McLaughlin Professor in Residence at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, was director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases at CDC from 1987-1991.
