Biographical sketch

Dr. Melanie Marsden is originally from the Black Hills area of South Dakota. Her commitment to community involvement started early in life during her father’s tenure as a representative in the South Dakota State Legislature.

She attended the University of California-Davis, where she received a Bachelor of Science in zoology and her veterinary degree. Dr. Marsden owns a small-animal/exotic practice in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

During veterinary school, Dr. Marsden was president of several clubs and served as student representative on the committee to interview potential candidates for a deanship. She also served as the school’s Student Chapter of the AVMA representative.

Dr. Marsden served on a committee for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, reviewing rules and regulations for captive wildlife, and on the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies Board of Pharmacy, helping to write the Prescription Drug Monitoring Plan for Colorado. She also served on the board of directors for the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.

Dr. Marsden has extensive experience in organized veterinary medicine. She is a past-president of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), where she also served on the CVMA Executive Committee. Dr. Marsden also served as Colorado delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates and as a member of the House Advisory Committee.

Dr. Marsden, her husband and their two children share their home with dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, geese, bunnies, geckoes, fish and budgies.
