Biographical sketch

Dr. Mary Ergen is a small animal practitioner in Nashville, Tennessee. She started Companion Animal Hospital in 1986 after working in a mixed practice for 4 years. She is a University of Tennessee graduate and a passionate Vols fan.

She enjoys seeing patients and performing surgery but is also greatly involved in organized veterinary medicine. She has been deeply involved in the Tennessee VMA for over 30 years and served as president in 2008. She also was the Tennessee Alternate Delegate in the HOD for seven years.

She has served on the board for the nonprofit CrossRoads Campus, which pairs shelter pets with homeless young adults and houses them together for the benefit of each other. She is a master gardener and helped start a local community garden that donates over 1,500 pounds of fresh produce to local food banks every year.

Dr. Ergen helped create and start a veterinary technician program at Volunteer State Community College and taught there for seven years. She was a partner in three local emergency clinics that are now part of Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospitals.

She and her husband Chris Taylor have been married for 36 years and have three adult children, none of whom has any interest in veterinary medicine.
