Foundation awards grants to study tick-borne disease

The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation announced June 16 that it had awarded the first round of grants through its Tick-Borne Disease Initiative.

The studies are as follows:

  • “Lyme disease in dogs: prevalence, clinical illness, and prognosis,” Dr. Jason Stull, The Ohio State University, $14,148.
  • “Thrombocytopenia and occult vector-borne disease in Greyhound dogs: implications for clinical cases and blood donors,” Dr. Linda Kidd, Western University of Health Sciences, $12,960.
  • “The role of lymphocytes in canine monocytic ehrlichiosis (CME),” Dr. Mary Anna Thrall, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, $15,000.
