Lisa B. Antinoph

Dr. Antinoph (OSU '85), 55, Stonington, Conn., died March 10, 2011. A small and exotic animal practitioner, she owned Mystic Veterinary Clinic and Home Veterinary Services in Mystic, Conn. Dr. Antinoph is survived by a daughter.

George M. Davis

Dr. Davis (COL '62), 72, South Bend, Ind., died Feb. 27, 2011. A small animal veterinarian, he owned Ireland Animal Clinic in South Bend. Earlier in his career, Dr. Davis served in the Army Veterinary Corps, attaining the rank of captain, and practiced at Roseland Animal Clinic in South Bend. He was a past president of the Michiana VMA and served as St. Joseph County 4-H Fair veterinarian and rodeo veterinarian for the St. Joseph County Posse. Active in civic life, Dr. Davis was a past president of the Michiana Kiwanis. His wife, Carole; a son; and a daughter survive him. John P. Glenn

Dr. Glenn (ISU '70), 66, Iowa City, Iowa, died April 24, 2011. A small animal veterinarian, he owned a practice in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Early in his career, Dr. Glenn served as a post veterinarian with the Army in Atlanta and practiced in Phoenix and Wickenburg, Ariz. Active in civic life, he was a member of the Guthrie Center Jaycees and Lions Club. Dr. Glenn's son and daughter survive him. Thomas R. Kurtz

Dr. Kurtz (WSU '52), 90, Seattle, died April 1, 2011. He practiced in Seattle until 1986. Dr. Kurtz was a past president of the Seattle Zoological Society, served on the Carkeek Park Advisory Council, and volunteered with the Washington Park Arboretum. He was a life member of The Nature Conservancy and Seattle Audobon Society and was a charter member of the Puget Sound Mycological Society. Dr. Kurtz is survived by three daughters and two sons. V. Glade Leavitt

Dr. Leavitt (WSU '59), 76, Alpine, Utah, died April 29, 2011. He owned a mixed animal practice in Oroville, Calif., for several years. Dr. Leavitt was a member of the California VMA and a past chair of its insurance committee. He is survived by his wife, Carole, and five children. Ernest M. Makino

Dr. Makino (CAL '52), 86, Menlo Park, Calif., died June 30, 2011. A mixed animal practitioner, he founded Tracy Veterinary Clinic in Tracy, Calif., retiring in 1987. Early in his career, Dr. Makino practiced in Patterson, Calif. He was a member of the California VMA and a past president of the San Joaquin VMA. In 1978, Dr. Makino received a special award from the American Animal Hospital Association for his service as an area director of Region 5. Active in civic life, Dr. Makino was a past president of the Tracy High School Board and Tracy Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of directors of the Tracy Community Hospital and Tracy Rotary Club. Lewis H. McCurdy Jr.

Dr. McCurdy (AUB '74), 61, Brownsboro, Ala., died Feb. 28, 2011. A mixed animal practitioner, he owned McCurdy Animal Hospital in Huntsville for more than 30 years. Dr. McCurdy was a past president of the Alabama and Madison County VMAs, the Madison County Animal Emergency Clinic, and the Greater Huntsville Humane Society. He was also a past member of the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and the founder and charter president of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation. In 2007, Dr. McCurdy was named Alabama Veterinarian of the Year. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; a son; and a daughter. Memorials may be made to the Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation, P.O. Eric W. Mendel

Dr. Mendel (COR '59), 76, San Jose, Calif., died May 3, 2011. He practiced at Valley Animal Hospital in Vestal, N.Y., for more than 35 years. Dr. Mendel was a past president of the Southern Tier VMA. His wife, Joyce, and four sons survive him. Carl J. Meyer

Dr. Meyer (AUB '65), 80, Inverness, Fla., died June 27, 2011. A mixed animal practitioner, he was the founder of Camelot Animal Hospital in Davie, Fla., where he focused on equine medicine and surgery. Early in his career, Dr. Meyer practiced in the Pompano area of Florida. In semiretirement, beginning in 1997, he served as a relief veterinarian and rode and conditioned horses for long-distance competitions. Dr. Meyer was a founding member and a past president of the South Florida Trail Riders of Broward County. He also founded Florida Endurance Classic Rides, events sanctioned by the American Endurance Ride Conference. Dr. Meyer was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his son. Arthur F. Morrison

Dr. Morrison (UP '49), 90, Seattle, died May 16, 2011. Prior to retirement in 1999, he owned a mixed animal practice in Lewistown, Pa., for 50 years. Dr. Morrison is survived by four daughters. Robert Niedbalec

Dr. Niedbalec (WRO '86), 52, Tampa, Fla., died Feb. 13, 2011. He immigrated to the United States from Poland in 1987 and practiced small animal medicine at Banfield, The Pet Hospital, in Tampa. Dr. Niedbalec is survived by his wife, Kathryn, and a daughter.

Jack W. Oliver

Dr. Oliver (PUR '66), 73, Maryville, Tenn., died June 5, 2011. He was director of the Clinical Endocrinology Service and a professor of veterinary pharmacology in the Department of Comparative Medicine at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Oliver began his career as an assistant professor of veterinary pharmacology at Purdue University. He subsequently served as an assistant professor of veterinary pharmacology and endocrinology at Texas A&M University; practiced mixed animal medicine in Salem, Ind.; and served as an assistant professor of veterinary pharmacology at The Ohio State University. In 1975, Dr. Oliver joined the veterinary faculty of the University of Tennessee as an associate professor of veterinary pharmacology. He received several honors from the university, including the Lindsey Young Professor of Veterinary Medicine Award in 1980 and being named an Amon Carter Evans Research Scholar in 1983.

Dr. Oliver served on the AVMA Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents from 1991-1997 and was appointed by the council in 1996 to serve as the AVMA delegate to the United States Pharmacopoeial Convention. He was a member of the Tennessee VMA, which honored him with an Outstanding Faculty Award in 1995. Dr. Oliver was also a member of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, American Society of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology, American Academy of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and Conference of Research Workers in Animal Disease. His wife, Suanne; two sons; and four stepchildren survive him. Eugene W. Perkowski

Dr. Perkowski (WAR '39), 94, Herkimer, N.Y., died April 29, 2011. Dr. Perkowski received his veterinary degree from the University of Warsaw, Poland. During his career, he worked for the United States Department of Agriculture. Dr. Perkowski is survived by his wife, Anna, and three children. Calvin E. Rofe

Dr. Rofe (COR '61), 72, Middleburg, Va., died May 11, 2011. An equine practitioner, he co-established Mayo and Rofe Equine Clinic in Middleburg in 1975. Earlier in his career, Dr. Rofe practiced at Meadowville Animal Hospital in Warrenton, Va. He was a veteran of the Army, attaining the rank of captain. Dr. Rofe's wife, Jean, and a son survive him. Arthur R. Roseberg

Dr. Roseberg (KSU '45), 95, Minneapolis, died April 9, 2011. He practiced mixed animal medicine in Minnesota and Fargo, N.D., for several years. Dr. Roseberg was a founder of Stockmen's Supply in North Dakota. He is survived by three daughters and a son. Thomas T. Sanford

Dr. Sanford (COR '56), 78, Poughquag, N.Y., died March 27, 2011. He founded a practice in La Grange, N.Y., in 1960, building a veterinary hospital in 1965. In 1974, Dr. Sanford established MacIntosh Farms in Poughquag, where he raised Brown Swiss and Holstein dairy cattle. Early in his career, he served in the Air Force as base veterinarian at Greenville Air Force Base in Mississippi.

Dr. Sanford was a past president of the Hudson Valley VMA. Active in civic life, he was also a past president of the Dutchess Farm Bureau and La Grange Lions Club; served as a Dutchess Community College trustee from 1968-1972; directed the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce from 1981-1985; and served on the Dutchess County Planning Board. In 1997, Dr. Sanford was honored with the Poughkeepsie Journal Volunteerism Award. His two sons and a daughter survive him. Leonard H. Sherman

Dr. Sherman (UP '36), 98, Pompano Beach, Fla., died June 23, 2011. A small animal veterinarian, he practiced in Bay Shore, N.Y., for 40 years. Dr. Sherman is survived by two sons.

Gilberto S. Trevino

Dr. Trevino (TEX '52), 86, San Antonio, died March 28, 2011. A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, he was professor emeritus at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences since 1981. Dr. Trevino began his career practicing in California and El Paso, Texas. He then worked as an instructor at TAMU before joining the Army in 1959. During his 27-year military career, Dr. Trevino earned a doctorate in pathology at Michigan State University and served as the first military liaison officer for emergency programs between the Department of Defense and the Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. He also served as the assistant and acting chief of the Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick, Md., and established the Army Forces Command Animal Disease Eradication Plan.

Dr. Trevino was awarded a Legion of Merit for his service and retired as a colonel. In 1976, he returned to TAMU as director of the Institute of Tropical Veterinary Medicine and professor of veterinary pathology. Dr. Trevino was a member of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians and the United States Animal Health Association. In retirement, he served as a relief veterinarian and raised cattle. Dr. Trevino is survived by his wife, Christine; a daughter; and a son. Cheryl A. Welch

Dr. Welch (UP '90), 45, Mahwah, N.J., died Feb. 23, 2011. She owned Franklin Lakes Animal Hospital, a small and exotic animal practice in Franklin Lakes, N.J. Dr. Welch was a member of the New Jersey VMA and served on the Mahwah Board of Health. Her husband, Donald Muller; two sons; and two daughters survive her.
