Council on Veterinary Service

The Council on Veterinary Service advises the Association and makes recommendations related to the delivery of veterinary services.

Composition

The Council on Veterinary Service shall consist of 10 voting members of the Association and one credentialed veterinary technician, representing the following areas of veterinary medical activity:

  • Private practice, exclusively small animal (two individuals)
  • Private practice, predominantly equine (one individual)
  • Private practice, predominantly food animal (one individual)
  • Private mixed practice (two individuals)
  • Academic clinical science (one individual)
  • At-large (one individual)
  • Recent graduate or emerging leader (two individuals).
  • Credentialed veterinary technician (one individual)

Responsibility

The Council on Veterinary Service is charged with these responsibilities:

  • Assemble and make available information and recommendations to the veterinary profession with respect to the delivery of service.
  • Study and suggest means for the delivery of veterinary service to the public.
  • Investigate matters pertaining to the economic and social aspects of veterinary service.
  • Collaborate with other entities within the AVMA on matters concerning veterinary service.
  • Review policies assigned to the Council by AVMA leadership.
  • Develop policies and materials pertinent to the delivery of veterinary services.
