Scholarship created for equine veterinary students

The Race for Education, AAEP Foundation, and Platinum Performance have established a one-year scholarship designed to support veterinary students intending to enter equine veterinary medicine. The scholarship, dubbed the Winner's Circle scholarship, will also reward leadership and participation in Student Chapters of the American Association of Equine Practitioners.

The Winner's Circle program will award one scholarship to a deserving student at each of the 34 colleges of veterinary medicine throughout North America and the West Indies that sponsors a national chapter of SCAAEP. Each scholarship equals a minimum of $1,500, and possible $5,000 if the student meets additional financial need requirements.

The program is provided through donations of $17,000 by each partner. The program aims to foster loyalty to the three partners, along with the AAEP and the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industries.

Eligibility requirements for applying include being a member of an SCAAEP in the third year of veterinary college. Funding is awarded during the fourth year. Applications for the scholarship can be found at www.racingscholarships.com. Applications must be submitted to the student's SCAAEP chapter by Feb. 28, 2008, and the chapter must submit nominations for a maximum of three students to the Race for Education by March 15, 2008.

The Race for Education provides children of low-income horse industry families, as well as children who want to pursue a horse-related career, with college tuition support, mentoring services, and more. Platinum Performance is a food supplement provider for people and animals.
